Design & Photography Internship

The duties of the Design and Photography Intern at Helen Day Art Center are to design and produce exhibition materials, promotional collateral, and other supporting materials for the program activities of the Art Center; to document program activities with photographs, audio and video; to represent the organization in a positive and intelligent manner at all times.

Collaborate with and assist the Staff to:
- Document Tours, artist talks, and other examples of our constituents experiencing HDAC.
- Design materials for Exhibitions, Public Programs, Education and Special Events
- Digital image preparation
- Web updates, social media, e-blasts, etc.

Job Specifications
The scheduling of Intern's hours will occur at the mutual convenience of the Intern and the HDAC Staff, in response to the requirements of the job.
This internship is unpaid.


 

Exhibitions Internship

The duties of the Exhibitions Intern at Helen Day Art Center are to support Exhibitions, artist talks, tours and the activities essential to administer a gallery open to the public and represent the organization in a positive and intelligent manner.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Collaborate with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Curator and Gallery Manager to organize and install exhibitions and events
- Main Gallery Exhibitions
- East Gallery Exhibitions
- Exposed
- Receptions, artist talks and public programs
- Research, writing and preparation for exhibitions
- Represent the Art Center to the public during gallery hours as needed (Wednesday - Sunday 12-5; Thursday 5-8)

Events & Arts Administration Internship

The duties of the Events / Arts Administration Intern at Helen Day Art Center are to support special events, public programs, communication, organizational structure and development work.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Collaborate with and assist the Assistant Director, Executive Director and Event Chairs in the following areas:
- Internal and external communication and organization.
- Public programming related to the mission of the Center.
- Development activities including research, grant-writing, outreach and stewardship.
- Participation in meetings and brainstorming to develop programming, organizational structure and fund raising initiatives.
- Highly resourceful individuals who demonstrate intelligence, initiative and a passion for the arts are encouraged to apply.

Art Education Internship

The duties of the Art Education intern at Helen Day Art Center are to support youth and adult education programs by providing support in the areas of planning, preparation, facilitation, administration and evaluation.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
- Preparing materials for school tours in conjunction with current exhibits.
- Assisting with classes as needed by preparing materials and working with the instructor.
- Helping establish and maintain records of students participating in classes.
- Documenting the classes and taking photographs of the students and work in progress.
- Assisting in communicating with the artists/teachers
- Assisting with promotion and marketing of classes and tours to schools and the community

The intern will be invited to attend meetings with the staff of HDAC and the Education Committee as they meet on a regular basis throughout the fall and spring.

Exposed Exhibit Graphic Design Internship

This Graphic Design Internship is specifically for HDAC's annual Exposed Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

The duties of the Design Intern at Helen Day Art Center are to design and produce exhibition materials, promotional collateral, and other supporting materials for the Exposed Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at the Art Center and to document program activities with photographs, audio and video. Designed materials include: exhibition catalogue, map, invitation, posters, postcards, web banner, interactive website, and signage.

It is important to maintain a professional presence, demonstrate professional interactions, and represent the organization in a positive and intelligent manner.
Interns will participate in weekly meetings to learn about planning processes.


The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Collaborate with and assist the Education Coordinator, Assistant Director, Executive Director and Event Chairs in the following areas:

Photography
• Document, edit and file exhibitions images
Design
• Design materials for Exposed Exhibition
• Digital image preparation
Communication
• Communicate internally with staff and key committee members
• Communicate externally with general public, constituents, businesses, organizations, and target audiences
• Communication may include phone and email inquiries, written letters, general advertising, and face-to-face meetings on and off site.
Programs
• Assist with public programming related to the mission of the Center as needed including Exposed event preparation, set-up, facilitation, and break-down
General
• Participate in meetings and brainstorming to develop programming, organizational structure and fund-raising initiatives.
• Assist with activities related to the daily functioning and ongoing operations of the Art Center
• Assist with office management activities as assigned

Exposed Exhibit Internship

The Exposed Exhibition Internship is specifically for HDAC's annual Exposed Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition.

The duties of the Exposed Exhibition Intern at Helen Day Art Center are to assist with installation, de-installation, production, management, promotional materials, communication with participating artists, video, photography and audio documentation, and website updates for the Exposed Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at the Art Center.

It is important to maintain a professional presence, demonstrate professional interactions, and represent the organization in a positive and intelligent manner.
Interns will participate in weekly meetings to learn about planning processes.


The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

Collaborate with and assist the Assistant Director and Curator of Exposed in the following areas:

Exhibition Production
· Primary assistant to the Curator of the exhibition
· Assist artists with locating sculpture sites, installing and de-installing sculptures & signs
· Prepare for exhibition opening including: printed materials, food, water, table or tent set-up, vendors
· Coordinate with other volunteers and interns in the production of the exhibition opening
· Post images of the exhibition on website and/or Facebook (dependent upon experience)
Photography
· Document, edit and file exhibition images
· Digital image preparation for use on website or Facebook
Communication
· Communicate internally with staff and key committee members
· Communicate externally with general public, constituents, businesses, organizations, and target audiences
· Communication may include phone and email inquiries, written letters, general advertising, and face-to-face meetings on and off site
